    Peapod Direct Check is a free hassle-free payment option that will help save you time and money. It's just like paying by check. Peapod has offered Peapod Direct Check for over 8 years under the name PEP (Peapod Electronic Payment), but now it's even easier because you can sign up online.

    By using Peapod Direct Check, you pay for your Peapod order by authorizing a secure transfer from your checking account for the exact amount of your order. After you've received your groceries, we submit your authorized debit request to your bank which then sends your payment to us. Peapod uses the same secure technology that millions of consumers use every day for paying bills and handling direct deposits and withdrawals. Plus, we adhere to all the National Automated Clearing House Association (NACHA) guidelines, so you are fully protected.

    How safe is Peapod Direct Check?
    Under federal law, you're protected against unauthorized charges, and your liability is limited to $50 or less in most cases. Plus, Peapod uses the same secure technology that millions of consumers use every day in paying bills and handling direct deposit of paychecks. And we're members of VeriSign Inc., a worldwide Internet trust service that provides us with customized digital certificates that authenticate our Internet transactions to ensure security.     Can I use Peapod Direct Check on the order I'm placing today?
    Absolutely! Peapod Direct Check can be used as soon as you sign up and provide all the relevant information.
    Do I still need a credit card if I am using Peapod Direct Check?
    Yes, even if you choose to purchase your groceries by Peapod Direct Check, we also require a credit card to establish your Peapod account and as a payment guarantee.
    How do I sign up?
    Enroll by completing the short online form in My Account or at checkout. You'll need one of your paper checks, with your bank name, bank routing number and account number (usually found at the bottom of each check).
    What happens with coupons and other credits?
    All credits and coupons will be applied to your current order.
    Can I use any financial institution?
    You should be able to set up Peapod Direct Check from any financial institution that is part of the U.S. Federal Reserve System, as long as they are able to handle electronic transactions. (If you are unsure, please contact your bank).
    What type of account can I use?
    In general, you can use any regular checking account (demand deposit account). Savings accounts may not be eligible, but this is up to your financial institution. If you have any questions, please contact your financial institution.
    When do you debit my account for my payment?
    Your account will be debited between 1 to 7 business days after you receive your Peapod order.
    What if my account does not have enough money in it to cover payment?
    If your account does not have sufficient funds available to cover your purchase, you will be charged a $30 handling fee for all Peapod Direct check payments returned by your bank as unpaid. Note: Your financial institution may also charge its own fees for unpaid funds.
    What if my bank changes ownership?
    If there has been any change in ownership of your bank, through a merger or sale, for example, the routing number on your checking account may become invalid. If you are aware of changes in the ownership of your bank, please contact your bank to confirm that you have the correct routing information, and update your information as necessary by going to My Account. As long as your current checks do not need to be replaced, the bank routing numbers you provide Peapod should be fine.
    How do I cancel Peapod Direct Check?
    Every time you checkout and place your Peapod order, you are able to select your payment method. So even if you have signed up and paid for your Peapod order with Peapod Direct Check in the past, you can choose another method of payment. If you are certain that you no longer want the ability to pay for your orders with Peapod Direct Check, you can call our Customer Care department at 1-800-5-PEAPOD (1-800-573-2763) and a representative will be happy to assist you.
